About

I am Lawrence Deveney, and I’m a classroom teacher living and working in Melbourne, Australia. I have worked in a range of educational settings, from mainstream to specialist, in full-time and casual capacities.

When I’m not working in the classroom, I’m usually reading. Ryan Holiday and Robert Greene are two of my favourite authors, and you will see me quote them regularly. So, this blog will not focus on learning, teaching or pedagogy in the clinical sense. Rather, it will be a series of general reflections on life, work, teaching, learning, reading, writing, storytelling, philosophy, music, and various topics. Things that I think and talk about, but don’t always get to explore in my profession as much as I would like to.

I am also an unapologetic nu-metal fan, and I want to compare and contrast the lyrical themes of the music I listen to with the books I read. Korn, Deftones, Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park, Papa Roach, P.O.D. and Disturbed have been staples in my music diet for the longest time, and you’ll see them pop up quite a bit here.

I received my Bachelor of Arts from La Trobe University in 2014, and my Master of Teaching from the University of Melbourne in 2016.

For those looking for writing on learning, teaching and pedagogy as they are commonly understood in academia, I can’t say you’ll get much out of this blog and I don’t recommend reading it.

But to those interested in reading these off-the-record posts, hello and welcome!
